Dada Mail has been around for awhile on the Internet, initially existing as Mojo Mail and undergoing a name change in November 2003 due to legal reasons.

Whatever the name, its evolved to a mature and stable bulk email marketing software which we use on many of our clients’ sites.

Dada Mail runs on Perl as is a web based mailing list manager. Its designed to be easily installed and managed. A typical Dada install takes about 10mins. We upload and uncompress the package, create folders and set some permissions, create some MySQL tables (I highly recommend a RDBMS install rather than text-file) and set come configurations and voila! Its up…

The rest of the time is just setting some preferences such as subscription forms, status pages and login details.

I’ll normally install the Bounce Handler plugin to manage all the bounces without needing user intervention – a boon when you send out over 10,000 weekly email newsletters!

So, our overall verdict? With a large number of installs, we’ve had very little client complains and excellent delivery rates. We only had one instance where email addresses were lost but that was due to a user error who accidentally deleted the text file… Its a good thing all subscription confirmations were kept and we were able to recreate the database in MySQL the 2nd time around…

The creator Justin Simoni has done an excellent job with what’s become an indispensable email marketing tool for many of our clients. Do drop by and give him some support by purchasing the Magic Book – A package of support, additional manuals and plugins.
